Frequently Asked Questions

  • The submissions to CAPI will be promoting a specific national, state, local, or school policy. A panel of judges that include public policy experts and representatives will select three winners from 10 finalists.

  • Yes! Teams of up to 3 are allowed, but you can also compete individually.

  • Any student in 9-12th grade who either lives in the U.S. or is a U.S. citizen (one or the other).

  • The proposal must include the following sections:

    • Identify a policy problem

    • Describe the selected policy problem

    • Describe the current policy, key policy players, and why policy improvements are needed

    • Identify your target policy decision-makers

    • Provide specific policy recommendations

  • We have a submission page on our website. You can attach your youtube link or written document there. All submissions are virtual.

  • Applications open on June 30th and are due October 1st. Results are released on October 22nd.

  • No, our competition is geared for students who have a strong interest in policy, not necessarily experience. All you need is an idea, an internet connection, and passion. If you need more information on how to get involved with policy and write a proposal, check out our resources page.
